Oak Ridge Schools
Oak Ridge public schools
are often cited as among the nation's best. Expansion Management magazine, urging companies to look at a community's schools to determine the quality of the workforce, has ranked Oak Ridge schools among the top performing systems in the nation for eight straight years.
Presently there are four elementary schools (K-4), two middle schools (5-8) and one senior high school (9-12). The school system also maintains a preschool program for children ages three to five years, a before and after school extended child care program (for preschool, elementary and middle school students), a vocational program and an adult education program. All seven schools are accredited by SACS. The system serves over 4,700 students and employs 334 teachers.
- Over 70% of teachers have a masters degree or above.
- The Oak Ridge High School class of 2005 excelled as 173 graduates earned a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better.
- Over 150 graduating seniors received special awards, scholarships or other types of recognition with monetary estimates in the excess of $7.5 million.
- Oak Ridge High School averages eight National Merit Finalists
each year and has graduated as many as 12 National Merit
Scholars in one year.
Roane State Community College
Roane State
has eight locations across East Tennessee - the Roane County flagship campus; an Oak Ridge campus; campuses in Campbell, Cumberland, Fentress, Loudon and Scott counties; and a center for health science education in West Knoxville.
Roane State provides transfer and career preparation study options, as well as continuing education and developmental education. Designed for students who plan to transfer curricula include two years of instruction in humanities, mathematics, natural sciences and social sciences to build a strong liberal arts background during the freshman and sophomore years. Roane State graduates may transfer to in-state senior institutions or to out-of-state universities and professional schools.
Pellissippi State Technical Community College
The Pellissippi Campus, the main site of Pellissippi State, is located 10 miles from Oak Ridge. Pellissippi State is a fully accredited public two-year college. It offers a challenging total-college experience that prepares students for obtaining gainful employment, transferring to a four-year institution, advancing in their career or simply enhancing their enjoyment of life.
Pellissippi State employs approximately 185 full-time faculty, 265 adjunct faculty, 231 staff, and serves over 7,000 students, between 100 and 150 of whom are international.
University of Tennessee-Knoxville
A short drive from Oak Ridge, UT is the state's largest university
and a world-class research facility. The school enhances opportunities
for students and assists area industries through collaborative
research projects and faculty and staff exchange programs.
UT's implementation of innovative academic programs, coupled
with the development of multimillion-dollar chairs of excellence,
has helped it become a top university in the nation. With
more than 26,000 students, UT offers 256 majors in 15 different
colleges. Many of the school's 1,200 faculty members are internationally
recognized for their contributions in research and training.
The University is a co-manager with Battelle of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Faculty and students experience unparalleled research and learning opportunities at the Department of Energy's largest science and energy lab.

Tennessee Technology Center at Harriman
The center provides workforce development for full time technical training in areas such as:

The center has a variety of part-time class offerings for students wishing to upgrade their technical skills. Customized need-centered training is available for business and industry to help train or retrain employees for specific tasks and functions.
